Good book, and good point.

Imagine waking up in a world without any media. No internet. No texting. No iPods, iPads, or iPhones. Not one television show. No media whatsoever. Although a world where we had no media could possibly be a more peaceable and beneficial world, most of us would start freaking out if we couldn't check our Facebook. I know I would. In this alternately angled book, Gregory shows the pitfalls of media today, and how we as a culture are more reliant on faux communication than real, live, face to face conversation. He show how we can use media to our advantage, while simultaneously living in a real reality, not a virtual one.

I liked:

The mind blowing facts. Did you know that a drunk driver is actually safer than a texting driver? I sure didn't.

The non-judgmental outlook. I loved that he understood how addicting technology is, and he wasn't condemning about it. He simply showed how much better it could be used.

The hope. He made it seem semi-doable to do a media fast. It was awesome.

I didn't love:

The lack of Christianity in it. Not that it was bad, but I usually expect Christian books to mention God in more than one chapter.

Overall:

I enjoyed this book, and although I was slightly afraid it could be boring, it was not. It was a great book, and I would definitely recommend it to you!

Steven Shaw is a teacher of the Alexander Technique and a former competitive swimmer. Over the past 20 years he has developed a revolutionary approach to swimming, the Shaw Method, which has helped thousands of people to find freedom in the water. Since 1999 Steven has been course director of the university-accredited Shaw Method of Swimming Teaching Diploma. Swim well with perfection

In my opinion, I rate this book with 5 stars. I have been swimming since childhood and went to a professional swimming school but have never come across a good swimming method like the "Shaw method" Alexander Technique. The book is very well illustrated and explains step by step how the swim without strain in freedom. With a good technique comes great speed without injury. This book has all you need to swim well in safety and perfection. I myself have tried all these methods and techniques and have improved my swimming. I gain more confidence in water taking out benefits from precious time. This book taught me to appreciate swimming in a graceful way with better performance. I let go and went with the flow instead of pushing myself. For example, I learnt to swim butterfly the "Shaw method" believe me I swim the technique with less strain limiting the energy expended on non propulsive movements. Try it yourself, I feel more confidant in water with these methods in all my stroke :-)

Jennie Fields received an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. The author of the novels Lily Beach, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, and The Middle Ages, she spent twenty-five years as an advertising creative director in New York and now lives with her husband in Nashville, Tennessee.

Remarkably evocative, sensually luxurious, emotionally complex

Everyone in 1907 Paris - even the servants - seems to know that Edith Wharton is a famous American author. Graced by the luxuries of her upper-class status, her writing life is rich with travel abroad, friendships with other writers such as Henry James, and the steady support of her childhood governess turned secretary, Anna Bahlman. But in her personal life, Edith is restless in a way that travel and books and smoking and knitting won't quell. In her mid-forties and married "for all the wrong reasons" to the kindly but morose Teddy, she increasingly senses that something is missing from her life. At a salon in Paris, she catches the gaze of that something in the blue, brazen eyes of Morton Fullerton, an American journalist for the Times of London. And now Edith knows: "She wants something, but is she willing to take the risk to find it?"

Anna Bahlman is practically famous by association to Edith, she tells herself. She takes a quiet pleasure in that fact, knowing that when she types Edith's words, when she suggests a little change or comments on a developing plot, she is becoming part of literary history. She is devoted to Edith, but it pains her to see the distance between Edith and Teddy. Any woman should be happy to call Teddy her husband. Anna once told Teddy that herself. Anna and Teddy have had a special bond since that long-ago conversation, but now both Whartons are becoming more difficult since Morton Fullerton entered the picture. A Beautifully Written Look Into the Life of Edith Wharton

'The Age of Desire' is a work of literary fiction that chronicles the inner life of American author Edith Wharton, her close friendship with a woman named Anna, and a scandalous love affair that threatens to destroy their bond. Being a current graduate student working on my degree in Literature, I jumped at the chance to read a book that detailed more of the private life of Wharton - one of America's greatest female writers.

Fields did a impeccable job with her novel. Her writing style flowed effortlessly and I was transported back in time alongside Edith from the very first page. The descriptions of the time and the various settings of the novel were done in such a way that I could simply close my eyes and I could vividly imagine the scene unfolding around me.

The characters in the book were very realistic and believable. They all had unique personalities and flaws that made them easy to identify with - I felt as if I knew them all personally, like I was taking part in the narrative myself. The author wrote the character of Wharton with such earnestness that even her mistakes and character flaws make the reader love her and sympathize with her. We feel her every emotion with intensity and vigor. All the characters are written with this amount of depth, so the heroine doesn't feel over-developed and the other characters are just as rounded, which I feel make the story all the more enchanting.

The novel swept me away from the first page and didn't release it's hold until the last word. There aren't many times when a piece of literature makes a lasting impression on a reader, but this is one that I will be thinking and speaking about for a long time to come. Fields did a wonderful job bringing not only the past to life, but making an iconic American figure come alive before our very eyes. It is an enthralling look into history and a beautifully written piece of literary fiction. I highly recommend this novel to lovers of literary and historical fiction.

The scandalous life of Edith Wharton

The Age of Desire is a biographical fiction novel about Pulitzer Prize winning author, Edith Wharton. The novel delves in the tumultuous and co-dependent relationship between Edith and her life-long best friend and secretary, Anna Bahlmann.

At the start of the novel, Edith is married to Edward (Teddy) Robbins Wharton, a man 12 years her senior, and who suffered from acute depression that steadily became more debilitating as their marriage progressed. Their travels ceased and Edith become more and more disenchanted. When she meets and falls hopelessly in love with Morton Fullerton, a notoriously promiscuous journalist who had affairs with both men and women, an affair of the heart begins. Numerous letters are written between them throughout their affair. While Edith is consumed with Morton, almost to the point of abandoning her ailing husband, Anna disapproves and helps care for poor Teddy who loves his wife. Through time, Morton and Edith's relationship deteriorates. The ever-private Edith asks him to burn the letters between them, but he secretly refuses and publishes them instead.

The Age of Desire opens when Edith is 45 years of age and portrays the famous author with all her faults. It reveals her secrets, her scandalous love affair with Morton, and the tumult of her life despite her success. The illusive relationship with Morton was intriguing, tempestuous, and hopeless, lending a touch of sadness throughout the novel because of his aloof attitude towards her. Anna acts as Edith's conscience. She disapproves of the love affair with Morton and the neglect of Edith's husband Teddy. Despite the animosity between the two women, they need each other, their life-long friendship linking them.

I enjoy books with an edge, and this book certainly did not disappoint. Realistic, believable, and cut with minor tragedies and unwise decisions, it is a poignant portrayal of Edith's life, loves, and enduring relationships. Fascinating!

The content of the is really good, but the book inside is a real Mess and Disorganized, especially the paragragh must be separated with some spaces. How can the author Sell a product so Bad Edited...!!!??? There a lots of parts about the Tables that has no Lines almost the entire book... it's so very difficult to read. The part that is a absolute mess the table chart "Result of Analysis on Tennis Strategies". I feel very disappointed about the arrange of the book. :-(

Chloe Des Lysses is captured 'at play'with a range of objects and toys.The images are strikingly explicit,rendered in a high quality black and white format that reminds you of old school pin shots. The fusion of pornography with such a strong artistic aesthetic is only one of the things that make this book so enjoyable. The tone of the pictures is also unique and far removed from your average over the top 'oh yeah baby' porno work.In many of the shots, Chloe looks completely unmoved, almost peaceful. This contrasts beautifully with the visual content - with some shots, it takes a few seconds to register what you're actually seeing. Also included is a great interview with Chloe herself. If you like pornography, but are sick of the low quality/crass emotional content that is usually offered, you should really check this book out. Way above average.

Review of the Solar System

This is the last of Lt. Col. Powell's books of theosophy. And it is the most technical in terms of the material with which it treats.

Powell summarizes the plan of the solar system (primarily the planet population) from the standpoint of Ancient Wisdom. He pulls from a vast array of works and culminates a precis (350 pp. worth) of such topics as: the formation of the human race; the various divisions of the human race (e.g. Lemurian and Atlantean); the evolution of the human race; the assistance to the human race from more evolved beings (e.g. the Lords of Venus); as well as the way that we as human beings in the current planetary scheme evolution can help speed the process of development for our race.

As with all of Powell's books, this one is eminently readable and is punctuated with diagrams that help the reader to simplify fairly technical concepts.

Excellent addition to The Secret Doctrine

A great book for all of you who are into New Age and history/future of mankind.
When I started to read this book, I didn't even know about the Secret Doctrine. Of course, after finishing it, I read the H.P.B classic... The Solar System is an excellent complementary reading, when it comes to the mavantara/pralaya cycles, rounds, races, etc... There's some pictures showing the cycles that make easy to understand how our solar system works.
After all, is a must read.

This series is deliciousness itself

So this is the 4th installment in the Executive Sweet Series and we continue to follow Chelsea’s whirlwind time with the billionaires.

So after a night out with her friend Natalie and their hook-ups Brian and Josh. Chelsea went on a surprise trip to Maldives with one of the Billionaires Everett. So after a hot flight to the Maldives, Everett and Chelsea had a great time until work interferes, what is a girl to do…

Another great installment, I am dying for #5. This series is deliciousness itself so I give the book a 9 out of 10, I just wish they were longer…but then I then I am greedy.

A woman's dream.

This continues to be a woman's dream, all the sex she wants and money to burn on herself! A few small grammatical problems tho. The very first para. is confusing but it gets much better after that; " ..as they reclined IN next to each other "; four wrong uses of "lied"; "as water poured over THE her...".
Over all it is a good story which I recommend.

A detailed large format book...

This work has many color photographs and color plates of the uniforms and insignia of the National Socialist German Workers' Party ("Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei") or NSDAP. It first covers the lay-out of the organization rank structure from 1932 through 1945. It has original color plates from Nazi German publications showing the different caps, ranks and collar patches. Chapter Two discusses "The Ortsgruppe" which was the local level of the Nazi Party. Fine examples of uniforms are shown by both original and uniform display photos. This pattern is continued thereafter. The book is good for the military hobbyist and student of World War II.

Other chapters cover:

Ch. 3: The Kreis - District level, similar to a county.
Ch. 4: The Gau - similar to the state level. The head was the "Gauleiter".
Ch. 5: The Reich - national level. In change of national level departments. The men were known as "Reichsleiters". Again nice photos of the men, their tunics, shoulder boards, etc.
Ch. 6: NS Schools and Party Court. This was the party school system and court system (to rule on party cases and disputes).
Ch. 7: Headgear.
Ch. 8: Pennants and Flags. Including vehicle pennants or "Hoheitstrager".
Ch. 9: Armbands.
Ch. 10: Collar Tabs.
Ch. 11: Medals and Regalia.
Ch. 12: Period Publications and Documents.

Footnote: This book does rely heavily on another book listed in its bibliography: "Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP & SA" by John R. Angolia, R. James Bender Publishing Co. (1985). I own that book as well and have reviewed it (rating it at 5 stars). It has been out of print for a number of years.

excellent reference resource

The photos are large and clear. The details are profuse. I used this as reference for a political illustration where pinpoint accuracy was paramount. This book filled the bill. I realize the applications for such a text are limited. However when you need the information you need it. I would recommend this book unequivocally to anyone who needs this specific information. It is informative and very well formatted.

Another winner from schiffer publishing company. They always seem to put out the best reference books in the third reich area. While i'm not a collector of uniforms, I do enjoy studying the photographs and info in this book. This reference covers a great portion of the nsdap uniforms and has excellent photos to show in the field and being displayed in private collections. Although i have more of an interest in the german armed forces rather than the beureaucrats, I still find this interesting, and this would go well with any other reference material for uniforms and regalia.
