This was an OK read. I can’t say I loved the story,It had all the right elements; the plot was there, just the story itself left a lot to be desired for me. Dominic was kind of an A-hole. The way he treated Anna was just wrong. He would just leave her, talk down to her and put her out and run to Victoria at the drop of a hat all while claiming he wanted to be with her?that was so messed up. Victoria was no better, always crying and saying how she didn’t want to interfere with his relationship but that is just what she did. For example she did not always have to be a round his family. She could have said no, not going to dinner with your family, take your girlfriend. I just didn’t understand why they just couldn’t say they loved each other or that they wanted to be together. If they had, a lot of things could have been avoided. It took the whole book for them to finally say how they felt about each other. The one thing I did love was the secondary characters. Dominic family was so funny, I would laugh out loud! I wanted to love this book, I have read book similar in story line but this one, I can’t say I loved.

This was a really good book and I would have given 5 stars but, it had a lot, a lot of typos and it took away from the reading. It had a good plot, good story, great characters but, the typos. I had to reread a lot to get the meaning from misplaced words or the wrong spelling of words. Could have been a great read.

Great Story - I loved it!

This author is not new to me and although I have her Defined and Delusional Love 2 book series, I have yet to read them. So I decided I would read this book now.

The story is about Dominic and Victoria and their journey to love. Their story was complicated and messy in places but the way the author navigates you through all the twists, turns and sets backs in the relationship was exquisite!

Reading this story for me was like eating one of my favourite meals or drinking some very smooth coffee with cream that gives you that wonderful feeling of enjoyment when you have a great meal. I thought the story flowed and it had me totally engrossed. I could not stop reading until I had finished the book.

The story has humour, betrayal, deception, friendship, love, murder, hatred. There are barriers and hurdles presented to the couple that they have to work through in order to achieve their happy ending.

What I appreciated about the story the most was that even with all the drama, confusion, complexities of what was going in their relationship, Dominic even when he was angry with Victoria, was always loving, thoughtful, protective of Victoria. He would not have anyone say a bad word about Victoria not even family members. Even with all their issues they remained caring about each other. I loved that so much about how the author told this story, to me that is true love.

The only villain in the story for me was Anna! Lord I wanted to give her the beat down of her life. However, she gets hers!
There were a couple of editing issues but this did not prevent me from thoroughly enjoying the story!

This to me, was a beautiful, tender love story which I enjoyed reading every single word of! I had that satisfied feeling after reading this love story. Loved it!

I cannot wait for Monica and Marco's story. I would highly recommend this story.

Ode to Peter Marshall

A thought provoking and engaging book

I read this book knowing nothing about its authors; after reading it I have subscribed to James Dale Davidson's financial newsletter! In a world that appears to have gone mad with fear and self-doubt, Davidson and Rees-Mogg provide a grand theory that explains why the world is the way it is in general. What they call "megapolitics" helps to explain how technological innovation drives not only the economy but also international relations. This book challenged my understanding of the internet by showing how advanced telecommunications changes the fundamental relation between the individual and the state. Even if you do not agree with Davidson and Rees-Mogg's theory, the bibliography of this book is so well researched that it alone justifies the purchase. I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased a copy for my family to read. A "must read" hardly does this book justice.

Cyberpunk future

This is a very interesting book with disturbing implications: the authors contend that, in our lifetimes we will see the messy demise of nation states, with the most advanced of the Western democracies falling the farthest and hardest. The grim future they depict is essentially that of Stephenson's "Snow Crash" or Gibson's "Neuromancer".

In making their case, the authors draw an interesting and convincing parallel between today's concepts of patriotism and national duty, and the Church in late medieval Europe.

I'd fault the book for its hyped up rhetoric and excessive repetition of the same historical factoids. Also, the dire predictions of this 1997 book are somewhat undermined by the predictions of the scope of the Y2K computer failures, and also by the odd depiction of Peruvian ex-dictator Fujimori as the wave of the future.

I've read all of the books by Davidson and Rees-Mogg, and was pleasantly surprised by their latest effort. The thing that's particularly inspiring about this book is the opportunity to consider futures that are not promoted by typical pundits and "experts." It's refreshing to be able to not only have an alternate view, but also to be able to review the research that has gone into the analysis, which enables one to see how the model being presented was developed. Even if reality does not show up exactly as presented, it's certainly thought-provoking.

simply a rewrite of the Psychology of Persuasion

This book, although well written and well laid out, is simply a rehash of Hogan's earlier book, "The Psychology of Persuasion". This book introduces literally nothing new, simply reorganizing the material.

If you own the Psychology of Persuasion, do not purchase this book. Otherwise, definitely buy one or the other.

(As an aside, I find it amusing that Hogan and his publisher believe the key to sales to be re-introducing the same material in different works, rather than creating "new editions". They may be right, but as someone who almost bought two "identical" books, it's a little annoying!)

how to sell

I was thinking that this book was going to be a little more about getting compliance out of individuals, along the lines of verbal judo. However, I found the book to be mostly about sales, and most concepts related to salesmen. Some of the concepts could be applied to getting compliance out of non-compliant individuals, but it seemed like the main focus was how to sell a product.

There are probably some good ideas in there, but...

I just sat down and got through 4 chapters of this thing and I literally had to put it down and come vent a bit.
When I ordered this book (based on so many positive reviews) I was excited and eager to read it.
But I'm pretty disappointed in and more than moderately annoyed by it.

1. The editing is weak. From a reader's vantage point I am continually distracted by awkward phrasing, minor typos, debatable punctuation and Laissez-faire writing. "There she is." "Sharp as a tack."
"Funny thing is that before you paint those pictures you want to address the resistance." What kind of sentences are these? They're irritating and begging for rephrasing.
Was the author trying to be "folksy?" Ugh. Even worse... was he just trying to fill up the pages?

2. The content seems to be nothing but rehashed pop-psychology. Sure there's a bibliography at the end, but I don't need a bibliography to summarize the author's points: Make people want what you're selling. Help customers see your product in a positive light and dismiss the competitors. Get the customer to imagine himself using your product. Make people think they're coming up with the ideas you are feeding them and they will be happy to embrace the ideas. Don't get in a shouting match with anyone, rather be subtle and cunning.
How is this even a book? No one needs to be told this stuff. People want to understand HOW to use the ideas.

3. Even if you think these "insights" are important enough to justify a book, does the author NEED to write what he's written about again and again?
If you look at page 30 you will see three successive short paragraphs that begin as such:
"If you will recall, I shared with you that when people..."
"And remember, you've discovered that people's beliefs..."
"And, I've shared with you how people..."

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I read the previous chapters. Why is he regurgitating it? If there is an important concept connected to the content he's trying to remind me of, then why didn't he make it crystal clear when he brought it up the first time?
And I didn't "discover that people's beliefs" anything. The author made this deduction. This is only one of the endless examples where the author INFORMS you about what he's already written about. But then again, I suppose that is consistent with the complaint I've read in others' reviews: that this entire book is just a rehash of some other book and it should only have been released as a second edition to the first book, not given its own title. So maybe consistency counts for something?

4. The book has a right-wing bias. It is pro "church" and "Republicans" and anti "Democrats." While everyone is entitled to their own place along the political spectrum and the bias is sure to be reassuring to some of the book's audience it's not actually germane and if you're not on that particular bandwagon, then it is just another annoying facet to an already annoying book.

5. The author is quite free with his use of the imperative tense. What's that all about? Some kind of NLP tactic? And what's with the author's self proclaimed "$10,000 ideas"? Now there's a bit of arrogance. He claims the ideas warrant the dollar value since you can either improve your business that much or enjoy intangible benefits worth that much. So you'll make a bunch of money off each of these tips, or even if you don't you'll be satisfied as if you had... Right.

6. While anyone might defend the book against all my complaints by saying that my complaints are perhaps too nit-picky, please remember that I bought this book because I WANTED to learn from it. I bought it believing it was good and well written. I didn't start out saying to myself "Let's see what I can find wrong with this." The book's faults have jumped out at me. They annoy me. They are hard for me to ignore, even though I believe there must be some good ideas in here and I'd LIKE to get my money's worth out of it. And if that's not enough to convince you how about this: This whole book is supposed to be about how to get people on board with you and your ideas! If the author turns off an excited, motivated reader (who has PAID for the book!) then shouldn't he have a clue as to the subtleties that affect the "relationship" between himself and the reader? Shouldn't he know how to say what he needs to say without annoying people?
I have to wonder about all the high praise others have given this book. Are they all people who have previously "drank the kool-aid"? Maybe people who have been to live seminars? Maybe the author is irresistibly charismatic in person?
7. My final complaint is that maybe some of the book's schizophrenia comes from the fact that there are two authors, yet the entire book is written in the first person using the pronoun "I" without ever clarifying whether it's Kevin or James writing. "I shared...." "I once gave a seminar where..." "I'm going to show you that..." "My mother regularly told me that..."
Did they switch off writing each chapter and insecurely feel they had to make sure to rehash what the other guy already wrote just in case he didn't say it right? Did one guy do all the writing while the other guy did all the Xeroxing at the library? Did they write each chapter collaboratively, thus creating some kind of conglomerate persona? Ugh. I really wish I hadn't wasted my money.

The Liberty Line is must reading for scholars of 19th century American history

This book effectivdely shows that most of the information circulated about the UGRR is based on folklore; exaggerated accounts magnifiied by telling; and faulty memories of those who furnished early data to earlier historians of the UGRR. It is a pleasant antidote to late 20th century political correctness views of history.

A level-headed masterpiece

The truth about the Underground Railroad is difficult to establish, because the operators were violating federal law and consequently kept few records. Most of the early books about it were based on recollections of participants or their children, collected long after Emancipation, and most of these reflected the perspectives of the whites who helped the escaping slaves. It is to Gara's book and his other writings that we owe the major reexamination of the entire phenomenon. He refocuses the discussion on the fugitives themselves, giving a much more balanced picture of how it all happened. It is true, of course, that thousands of whites helped to spirit the fugitives to safety; but it was the slaves themselves who risked everything, who traveled hundreds of miles on foot, in the dark, through swamps and rivers and fields, in search of freedom. The whites--at great personal risk, too--simply helped. Gara has revolutionized our understanding of the UGRR, and his little book is a genuine classic.

This book was extremely difficult for me to read considering the circumstances Novel was constantly put through... It shows you how you should be appreciative of things in life and how you shouldn't allow the lows that life sometimes throws our way dictate and control our future. As we watched Novel grow into this new woman, we seen through men like Lance and Truth that there are angels here on Earth. I appreciated this story because we got to look at some really good men besides her step father and was shown the worth of REAL men and it goes to show you that women are not the only ones who can change young women. Lance showed Novel her worth and I'm so happy to have gotten the opportunity to come across this story... Makes me want to share my own experiences through paper... Good job Ms. Green! Kudos!

No More Pain

Novel, went through so much, I was rooting for her the whole time. If you don't want to get emotionally attached then this book, isn't the one for you. Novel dealt with a lot in her life, from being abused, and mistreated by her step father that ended up in a unwanted pregnancy. To being constantly let down by the people she grown to love. When Truth entered Novels life I was a little skeptical at first, since most individuals abused her but that wasn't they cased with him. He actually wanted to help her, and brought her to a foundation he attended where he was younger. There she met Lance her mentor, to me Lance was the best thing that happened to Novel. He taught her her worth, was there for her, took her in, and loved her like only a father could. I recommend this book to everyone. A lot of people are going through with Novel went through, and feel they can't overcome that, if they read this book they will realize they self worth. And also realized they can overcome every, and anything.

She has done it once again!!!! This author never disappoints!!!! I sat and read this all the way through....I couldn't put it down. It was very interesting. It held my attention from beginning to end. The only complaint that I have is I think ill lady was overused. There were lots of instances where it wasn't needed. Other than that I loved it!
