Oh Klaus, you and your accent!!
By Irene R
The Things we Do For Love is the 2nd book in the series. I would say you have to read them in order. You meet Klaus and Hayley in the first book. However that was more about Katrina and Justin. This is all about Klaus and Hayley. How they met, how Klaus becomes a club owner.

Each couple has their own rules for swinging. Klaus's and Hayley's is don't get involved with club members. There is a get together with Klaus and two ladies. Hayley finds out and goes off the hook. She is the one that actually gets punished.

What I liked is that in the beginning Jaime lists Klaus's terminology. See Klaus is English. He comes from across the pond as they say. Some of the phrases he uses you might be lost. Hence Jaime putting in the begging. So be sure you read that, so you don't go "huh" when Klaus says something us American's wouldn't say.

Things happen in England that Klaus has to take care of. Once there for a few weeks he realizes where his home is, who is home is.

I loved it. It's a hot steamy, short read, leaving you wanting more. I can't wait to see who we read about next.

Another AMAZING book in the Swingtown Series!!

The Thing We Do For Love is all about Klaus and Hayley Arrington. We finally get to see their back story on how they first met. As you know from Levels Klaus and Hayley run 2 club swingers clubs, one in the US and another in England. After receiving a call from Declan who runs TPOT, the club in England, Klaus is forces to take an unexpected trip back to England without his wife to do damage control.

The Thing we do for love was an amazing HOT quick read that again you will not want to put down or end. Oh and if you didn't fall head over heals in love with Klaus in Levels you will in this one!!

This is another 2015 MUST Read by Jaime Whitley!!

McDonald's: Behind the Arches, by John F. Love

McDonald's: it is the world's premier entrepreneurial success story, a company whose growth worldwide continues to be astonishing. In tough financial times, McDonald's proved that ingenuity, trial and error, and gut instinct were the keys to building a service business the entire world has come to admire. In the years since McDonald's: Behind The Arches was first published, McDonald's has been a trendsetter in advertising, focusing on different ethnic groups as well as the physically disabled. McDonald's created McJobs, a program that employs both mentally challenged adults and senior citizens. And because its franchisees have their fingers on the pulse of the marketplace, McDonald's has evolved successfully with the health food revolution, launching dozens of new products and moving toward environmentally-safe packaging and recyclable goods. Inspiring, informative, and filled with behind the scenes stories, this remarkable saga offers an irresistible look inside a great American business success.

From Publishers Weekly
These 16 position papers by government figures and economists (U.S. Representative Obey (D., Wis.), Senator Sarbanes (D., Md.), Walter Heller, Felix Rohatyn, Lester Thurow, et al.) were prepared for a 40th anniversary Congressional symposium on the Employment Act of 1946, which amid uncertain postwar economic prospects, enjoined the Federal Government to "promote maximum employment, production and purchasing power" by "all practicable means." The essays survey the Act's achievements and the revolutionary changes since that time in world banking and finance, production technology and marketing processes, which in turn raise alarming questions about current U.S. Federal and trade deficits, slow overall economic growth and increasing resort to offshore production. ("The outcome of industrial competition today will matter powerfully tomorrow.") There is in general a strong bias here for reexamining laissez-faire Reagan administration policy and reinstituting public activism to promote opportunity in education, employment and beyond.

From Library Journal
"The history of the McDonald's system is the story of an organization that learned how to harness the power of entrepreneursnot several, but hundreds of them." This work is not the story of Ray Kroc, McDonald's colorful founder, but that of all of the individuals, including the McDonald brothers, suppliers, financiers, franchisees, as well as the early employees, who made McDonald's the undisputed champion of the fast food industry. The complex financial arrangements that were necessary to McDonald's success are made clear, as is the company's commitment to quality, service, and cleanliness. This entertaining work is highly recommended for most public and academic libraries. Michael D. Kathman, St. John's Univ. Lib., Collegeville, Minn.

A Fast Read--A drive down Memory Lane for someone who was a teenager in the 1960s
By Whetstone Guy
1. I concur completely with another reviewer, Paul Dsouza, whose review is below.

2. I do have a few other comments to add.

a. The book answered my question how Ray Kroc got started (he needed to support himself since he was 52 when he franchised McDonalds and was not living with his parents) with very little money in a business that now requires hundreds of thousands of dollars to start.

b. Ray Kroc made a number of mistakes. For one, his master agreement with the McDonald Brothers was so much in their favor that he constantly violated the agreement. Another mistake the book points out is that at the beginning he franchised some stores in California and could not effectively monitor these restaurants from his Chicago, Illinois area small business office.

c. Ray Kroc should never have have been the franchising agent for the McDonalds. He should have started a chain with a different name and used the McDonald Brothers as paid consultants. The McDonald brother's operations in California was just a local affair and the good will from their business to the Chicago area was zero. Why pay royalties when all he needed was their expertise! After a short while, Ray Kroc had more expertise in the fast food business than the McDonald brothers, but he was locked into their franchise agreement, which cost him $2.7 million in cash to buy out.

d. The book points out Ray Kroc's idiosyncrasies, some of which were politically incorrect, and many of which would be illegal today. One is not hiring women at the restaurants because he did not want the restaurants to be hang outs for teenagers.

e. Ray Kroc, as others in his time and now, changed the way food is prepared for restaurant chains. Now food is prepared by the suppliers; it is factory prepared food. That keeps costs down and makes for uniformity. There is a technology or science to preparing food. Ray Kroc was a big part of that movement.

f. Ray Kroc's personality is interesting. He was fair and honest with his franchisees and suppliers. He was well intentioned. He was not driven primarily by money as he was in building a business. He took the long view and basically gave away the franchises at the beginning. But like many managers who own their own businesses, he had a temper and acted inappropriately. By that I mean he fired people right and left for small or excusable reasons. His secretary, knowing better, failed to execute his firing orders to give Ray Kroc time to cool off.

g. The book is a fast read and very educational. I enjoyed reading it and recommend it highly. It was a drive down memory lane for me. Of course, it also shows how entrepreneurs succeed through drive, skill, and some luck.

3. Paul Dsouza's review:

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The most interesting part is the actual history of the evolution of McDonald's- the company, the brand, the system. While many people can find fault with the fast food culture of the world and point a finger at McDonald's, one cannot ignore the incredible story that describes the creation of an entire culture. In fact, this book is a must-read for anyone who believes that great companies are created, not by great ideas, but disciplined execution, processes/systems and attention to detail. It taught me a lot about the workings of this giant even though I am not sure I would want to eat there anymore, particularly after reading "Fast Food Nation"!

WE HAD IT OUR WAY
By richard e whitelock
Now this is one American success story that everyone reading this review has played a part in. You should read this book for the sheer pleasure of better understanding what a startup business requires and how, by a series of chances, the right people are hired and make such considerable contributions to the overall success of the business. It is a book well researched and even better written. It is an adventure. It never becomes tiresome and at the end you marvel how it all came to be and at the same time you can better understand why it was a success. Ray Kroc was certainly a visionary. He had an idea about how things should be and what he didn't understand he was wise enough to hire managers who had the potential to understand, implement, control and adjust on the fly. And he allowed his managers to act and even make mistakes along the way.

Hooray for McDonalds and all those who believed in Kroc's way of doing things. You were justly rewarded financially. And to the author, thanks for writing a book that can be enjoyed by a cross section of all generations. As I said earlier, we all played a part in McDonald's success and continue to do so today.

Great Read
By chefjoe22
I purchased this book for an Economics course I was taking for school. Having been interested in the growth and success of McDonald's, I was excited to read this book. The book gives a thoughtful and unbiased account of McDonald's tremendous rise and popularity. Additionally, I found that I was enjoying myself when reading it as opposed to just reading because I had to. I would definitely recommend this book.

first reputable book on repairable systems
By Michael R. Chernick
This book by Ascher is one of the earliest to concentrate on this topic. Even today there are few books on the topic. Rigdon's new book is more current. This book is referenced by Nelson in his text on recurrent events and I believe that Nelson analyzed data taken from Ascher's book.
Good first introduction but you may prefer Rigdon's book as it should be much more up-to-date.

Reference Data on Atoms, Molecules, and Ions (Springer Series in Chemical Physics) (Volume 31), by A.A. Radzig, B.M. Smirnov

This reference book contains information about the structure and properties of atomic and molecular particles, as well as some of the nuclear parameters. It includes data which can be of use when studying atomic and molecular processes in the physics of gases, chemistry of gases and gas optics, in plasma physics and plasma chemistry, in physical chemistry and radiation chemistry, in geophysics, astrophysics, solid-state physics and a variety of cross-discipli nary fields of science and technology. Our aim was to collect carefully selected and estimated numerical values for a wide circle of microscopic parameters in a relatively "not thick" book. These values are of constant use in the work of practical investigators. In essence, the book represents a substantially revised and extended edi tion of our reference book published in Russian in 1980. Two main reasons made it necessary to rework the material. On the one hand, a great deal of new high-quality data has appeared in the past few years and furthermore we have enlisted many sources of information previously inaccessible to us. On the other hand, we have tried to insert extensive information on new, rapidly progressing branches of physical research, such as multiply charged ions, Rydberg atoms, van der Waals and excimer molecules, complex ions, etc. All this brings us to the very edge of studies being carried out in the field.

Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method: Grade 1 (Grade 1), by Mel Bay

The world's premier method for learning modern plectrum style guitar, time-tested and proven successful in building the theoretic and technical foundation needed to play in any style. All seven grades of this method are written in standard notation only to encourage better sight reading. In Grade 1, the student guitarist will learn to play solos, duets, scales, and chords in the keys of C, A minor, G and E minor. Even in Grade 1, the student is already exposed to the chord/melody concept of guitar performance. A supplementary study book entitled Grade 1 Studies, two different play-along audio recordings (pop version and traditional), and a video are available. The companion recordings feature Tommy Flint and William Bay playing in split-track format, with the solo parts performed on the right channel, and the accompaniment or second duet parts played on the left. The student can play along with the full recording, or tune out either channel and play the missing part.

Review
I was 17 years old teaching at Ernie Ball's Guitar Shop in Tarzana, California. That's where I met Mel Bay through a workshop he taught. It was then that I took myself through his 7 book guitar method the first time which was very instrumental toward my professional training. Now, all these years later just I completed the updated expanded edition of the 7 book method. It is a beautiful workout and journey of graded material including: 1. Reading studies in all keys and positions. 2.Beautiful chord melodies ranging from classical to folk, blues, jazz and latin in style. 3. Theory is an integral part of this method presenting harmonized chord forms, studies in thirds and triads and quartal harmony in all keys. 4. Technical development and challenge and strong musicality frame this great work. This production is in my opinion the consumate guitar method which I recommend as a must to all serious guitarists. Congratulations to William Bay for this masterpiece. --Michael Anthony

About the Author
Mel Bay was born on February 25, 1913 in the little Ozark Mountain town of Bunker, Missouri. He bought a Sears Roebuck guitar at the age of 13 and several months later played his first "gig." (He recalled playing until his fingers were raw!) Mel took up the tenor banjo shortly thereafter and continued to play both instruments. During his teenage years Mel played with a wild assortement of bands and characters in rural Missouri. Perhaps no "gig" was as strange as the job he landed with, in Mel's words, "a snake oil salesman." This flamboyant peddler would pull his ostentatious Pierce Arrow automobile, complete with steer horns mounted on the grill, into the center of a small, rural town. Mel would sit on the car and play up a storm on the tenor banjo. After a crowd gathered, the peddler took over and began extolling the merits of his "wonder elixer." In 1933 Mel Bay moved to St. Louis and began his professional career. He played with numerous local and traveling bands. In addition, he landed staff guitar jobs on several radio stations. Mel fronted his own trio (piano, bass, guitar) and played steadily for 25 years! He was equally adept on most fretted instruments and played mandolin, uke, Hawaiian guitar, tenor and plectrum banjo professionally. While Mel was actively pursuing his playing career, he continued to teach as many as 100 students a week. He decided to begin writing instructional materials due to the difficulty encountered by guitarists at playing good sounding chord forms in rhythm sections and due to the poor note reading ability prevalent among guitarists. After the war Mel was asked to write instructional materials on guitar for GI's wanting to learn music under the GI Bill. In 1947 Mel formed his own publishing company and wrote his landmark initial book titled The Orchestral Chord System for Guitar. (This book is still in print under the title Rhythm Guitar Chord System and continues to be one the finest rhythm guitar chord texts available!) His Modern Guitar Method was penned shortly thereafter. For years Mel traveled from town to town talking to guitar teachers and players and showing them his publications. At one time Mel claims to have known virtually every guitar teacher in America on a first name basis! The guitar and Mel Bay books caught on in a big way in the 1950's. Things have continued to grow ever since. Mel used to sell D'Angelico guitars. At any given time he would have 5 or 6 "lying around the house." Mel played professionally on his New Yorker model but his favorite was the initial Mel Bay Model crafted as a gift for him by John D'Angelico. This famous guitar had all of the main features of the New Yorker but was a "cut away" model and had a slightly thinner neck. This instrument has been pictured on the Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method for decades. Someone once calculated that sales of guitar books written by Mel Bay have exceeded 25 million copies. When asked, Mel frequently said that he quit counting long ago. Sales of his Modern Guitar Method have alone surpassed the 7 million mark. It is safe to say that Mel Bay is one of the pivotal figures in the world of guitar music and instruction in this century.

There is no substitution for practice, practice, practice ...
By Ross Johnson
There is no substitution for practice, practice, practice until muscle memory takes over and one can express oneself with artistic verve and vigor. This methodology goes step by step learning the scales string by string, key by key, chord by chord. Proficiency takes literally hundreds of hours, no fooling.

Good Basic Guitar Book
By S. Hauch
The first Mel Bay Grade 1 book I had lacked the spiral binding and the CD, but the material inside was in the style of where I started way back when with learning the trombone - the basics, in other words. I've seen negative reviews about the songs being outdated, but you don't buy a book like this to learn songs, you buy it to learn to read music. There may be more familiar tunes in Hal Leonard books, but Mel Bay has it all covered for learning. I'm on books 3 and 4 now, slowly making my way through, and I've purchased this Grade 1 book for 2 other people so far, that's how much I respect what it has to offer. You have to seek out the spiral binding to make it lay flat while using it, and the CD can be used to demonstrate how the practice pieces should sound. Nobody I know is going to be as good as the recordings right off, but that's true of ANY music book, whether it has standard notation or tablature. Mel Bay's material will give you a solid basis to build on, but a good music teacher can help with the finer points. If I was teaching, I'd recommend this book as a practice source.

Rush pulls you headlong into the thrilling, high-stakes world of Eve Silver's teen series The Game, about teens pulled in and out of an alternate reality where battling aliens is more than a game—it's life and death. Eve Silver's teen debut offers science fiction and gaming fans romantic thrills at a breakneck pace. New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong says, "Smart and original, Rush is an action-packed ride with plenty of heart."

Sixteen-year-old Miki Jones's carefully controlled life spirals into chaos after she's run down in the street, left broken and bloody. She wakes up fully healed in a place called the lobby—pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game in which she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures. There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader, Jackson Tate, who says the game is more than that and what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival—and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn't. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

From School Library Journal
Gr 8-10-Rush is difficult to explain and at times difficult to understand, yet it is a compelling read. As Miki Jones, a junior at Glenbrook High, is "pulled from real life," thinking she is dead, she struggles to understand a Mad Hatter universe. She encounters Luka Vijic, a former friend who has returned to Rochester, New York, from Seattle. He tells her that he, too, was "pulled" and that they are both alive, except when they are on a mission. As long as they are successful in this game that is not a game, they get to return to their lives, a process that will repeat itself. Their goal is to kill Drau, alien beings seeking to conquer Earth. Plenty of aliens and conspiracies are juxtaposed with the ordinary world of a teen struggling to balance everything in her life. Some of the characters are stereotypical and two-dimensional, and aspects of the universe that Silver has built challenge the suspension of disbelief. However, most readers won't notice and will simply zip along, hoping to figure out what's really going on.-Saleena L. Davidson, South Brunswick Public Library, Monmouth Junction, NJα(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

From Booklist
There’s no tunnel toward the light in Miki’s near-death experience. Instead, she’s flung together with a group of other teens in an alternate universe where they must battle the alien Drau or lose their lives. Although the alien battle is framed as the Game, Miki realizes that the stakes are high as she tries to unravel the truth behind these interstellar invaders. Silver complicates her story line with the welcome addition of an Edward Cullen–like hottie, Jackson Tate (whose true identity may be more terrifying than any vampire), and a jealous friend, Carly, who doesn’t realize that Miki is being jerked from reality to the Game, rather than from boy to boy. A love triangle between solid boy-next-door Luka, Miki, and Jackson develops, but what readers may find most compelling are the habits of the Drau, whose crude attempts at human infiltration are as shocking as they are realistic. Whether teens read this for the romance or the science fiction, they’ll finish eager for the second installment of the Game series. Grades 9-12. --Erin Downey Howerton

Summary (from Goodreads):

So what's the game now? This, or the life I used to know?

When Miki Jones is pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game--her carefully controlled life spirals into chaos. In the game, she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures. There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says the game isn't really a game, that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival, and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn't. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

What I Liked:

OH MY GOSH I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! This one is definitely going on my list of favorites at the end of the year. Yes, I didn't rate it five stars, and I have good reasons why I docked that one star, but seriously, people. I was so impressed when I finished this book. I've never read anything by Eve Silver, and I'm glad that this was the first one of her books that I read.

Miki is an incredible character. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked her or not. She's extremely tough, smart-mouthed, inquisitive, and really, in short, strong. I guess I wasn't expecting such a strong protagonist, but Miki definitely packed one heck of a punch (both in the story and as a character).

Miki is pulled when she jumps in front of a truck to save a little girl, and instead, gets killed. Sort of. She wakes up to find herself in the Lobby, waiting to attack alien creatures. Her "team" includes Jackson, Richelle, Tyrone, and Luka (Luka, she already knew from her school).

I thought the premise of this story sounded awesome - and it really was! I'm kicking myself for having an early review copy of this books for MONTHS and not reading it sooner, because I was completely sucked in to the story. This sort of reminded me of Epic by Conor Kostick, but in an obscure way. Being pulled into this different setting is sort of like being in a video game.

There is a ton of action in this book, and it almost seems non-stop. Being pulled means that you are taken into the "video game" world, and if you survive, you are dropped back into your real life, at the exact second you left. So, while a good amount of the book was spent in the "video game" world, not a lot of time passed in the real world. I loved the anticipation of fighting the creatures (called Dra) - I think Ms. Silver does an excellent job building up the tension and the nerves before Miki and the team fight the Drau.

This book is full of twists and turns! I thought it was going to go one way, and then it goes another way. I could not believe what Ms. Silver threw at us, with the bodies (not telling!). And then to find out Jackson's secret... I was shocked and intrigued! Ms. Silver definitely keeps readers guessing, but throughout the book, she tells us enough so that we won't be completely confused as we read.

Speaking of Jackson... oh man. He's the leader of the team, and he is full of mysteries. He never takes off his sunglasses, he doesn't like answering questions, and he seems to be extremely good at what he does... why? We find out as we go. He's definitely my favorite character of the book. He isn't a wimp, or a coward, or a big softy. He doesn't really have "moments". And when he tells Miki he's dangerous - he means it. This isn't like Edward telling Bella to stay away from him because he "might" hurt her (bullcrap) - I find Jackson's reasons more tragic.

And of course, he's an amazing love interest. I love his continual banter with Miki throughout the book. One of my favorite scenes of the entire book (I have many favorite scenes of this book... like, the whole thing!) is the lunch scene. Jackson isn't a soft and squishy guy - he's definitely and iron and steel guy that you don't want to mess with. But somehow, he's so lovable! And swoonworthy! And officially one of my favorite male protagonists of all time! Check out my Swoon Thursday (#22) post if you don't believe me.

That being said, I love the romance in this book. The plot is definitely NOT the romance, and the romance is second to the plot, though both are much more connected than readers believe (we find out this in the end of the book). There is a sort-of love triangle, but it's really not one at all. In any sense of the phrase. At least, I don't think it is.

The book ends in a cliffhanger, and I need Push (book two) like, yesterday. I was emotionally distraught over this cliffhanger! So, not a favorable ending. But it's a good ending! Like, well-written, makes sense with the plot, understandable, mean... I need Push.

What I Did Not Like:

There were a few things that stuck out to me that I didn't really like, and that's why this book got 4 stars instead of five. For one, the massive cliffhanger that I absolutely abhorred and possibly cried over because I couldn't believe Ms. Silver would do such a thing. Cue the water works!

Another is the amount of info dumping that happens. Readers (and Miki) get a ton of information in like, three spots in this book, all at once. When Miki firsts enters the Lobby, she gets a boatload of information then. Then she talks to Jackson when they were at the playground later in the story. And there are more spots that are smaller, but basically, the info dumping was kind of painful.

And there are some small things that were never really answered in this book (maybe in the next books?). Like, I don't really understand why the Drau are stuck in the "video game" world. And why does dying selflessly pull someone into the "video game" world? There are other questions I had, but I'm hoping that they aren't important details, or that they will be answered in the next two books.

Would I Recommend It:

Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes.

Yes.

Go get a copy now! Buy it, borrow it, whatever, just get it! You don't have to be a video game lover (I'm not!) or a science fiction lover to read and love this book!

Rating:

4 stars. I must have re-read this book about 4 times already. It's that good, people!

Cool concept- minor issues
By Jessica Leigh (Lovin' Los Libros)
The concept behind this book was what really pulled me in. Not to mention, I'm always up for a little sci-fi! If you are not one who cares for non-realistic plots, well, this book probably isn't for you. I personally loved Ender's Game and this book was very similar in that both are fighting to ensure humanity's survival from an alien invasion.

While I overall enjoyed this book, there were quite a few elements I didn't particularly care for.

I felt like there was a lot of information overload going on in this book. I realize it is the first in the series, so Silver is setting the stage and helping us readers understand the mechanics at work in the game. However, at times I felt there was more info-dumping than there was actual plot and action. We did get some great action scenes while Miki and crew were on missions and the last 25 or so pages had me really going to see how Silver would conclude the book. (A bit of a cliffhanger, if I do say so myself.)

I liked the main character Miki, well enough. She had every right to be overly inquisitive to the point of irritation. She died and was then brought back to life and put into a game where she runs missions and then takes a break and goes back to her normal life, only to be aware that she could be pulled back at any time. So, I get the never-ending questions and her frustration with their 'team leader' Jackson. She is dealing with quite a bit, including the loss of her mother at a young age and an alcoholic father who won't admit that he has a problem. She ends up admitting she likes the rush of the game (the fear, the adrenaline, the unknown) because it actually sparks her into feeling alive- which she hadn't before. Her sadness was always there, keeping her just under enough to feel it, but not enough to make her seem depressed.

I absolutely despised Miki's best friend Carly. She was shallow, jealous, and well let's face it: a complete bitch to Miki. I realize that she was a loyal friend to her through some pretty difficult times in the past, but that doesn't make up for the way she's treating her now. Ugh. High school girl drama.

Jackson, Miki's team leader in the game, is a complete enigma. We don't really find out his deal until later on in the book. He's a bit contradictory. He tells Miki it's every man for himself in this game, but then goes out of his way to protect her. He tells her he can't talk about the game in the outside world, but continues to break rules anyway. His duality frustrated me a bit. One minute he's kind and genuinely seems concerned about Miki and answering her questions and just getting her through and the next he throws a wall up between them and is back to his cocky, self-assured attitude. He harbors a lot of secrets, which thankfully Silver does share with us bit by bit.

Then there is Luka. He is also part of the team, but has known Miki since they were kids. It seemed like Silver was going to go all love triangle on us, but I think she changed her mind and by the end there is nothing of the sort. There's not much to say about Luka, except he was kind and wanted to help Miki- he didn't think it was fair that she not know so many things about the game.

Overall, this book really showed potential. My biggest issue was all the information overload. I felt like it could have been handled differently, so that I wasn't bogged down with all the specifics and was able to flow along more smoothly with the plot. Will I be reading the second book? Probably. I like the concept and I am curious as to where Silver will take this series next. And hopefully now that we all understand (in very clear detail) how the game works, what the teams are up against, the second book can be more centered around plot and action rather than info-dumping.

I loved it!

I received Rush in return for an honest review from the author. Miki lives with her dad after they lost her mom to cancer she tried to keep things normal good grades and her friends but all that is about to change. When a new student arrives at school she starts hearing voices that tell her to help and save a little girl from a fatal accident. Upon saving the girl she is trust into another world where a team fights aliens in order to save the planet. They claim it’s a game but it’s real, she’s joined by Luka one of the kids from school as well as the new guy. Unlike other new players to the team Jackson takes her under his wing protecting her.

When they eliminate the threat they are thrust back into their lives time once again starts as if they have never left. Miki is confused and none of the players will explain what’s going on it’s a secret Luka won’t disclose but Jackson shows up to answer her questions. Even Luka gives in not wanting Miki to be in the dark of what’s going on. When her friends see her talking to the guys she feels betrayed so not only does Miki have aliens and attractive guys to deal with she also has to save her friendship. The aliens are ramping up for something big will Miki be able to stop them before it’s too late? Will they all make it out of the game alive?

I didn’t care for Miki at first but as the book progressed I grew to like her. She’s had a rough life and dealing with her dad after losing her mom can’t be easy. I liked Luka right away he’s a good guy who’s just trying to survive the game and I hope to see more of him in the next book. When it comes to Jackson he also captured my heart he’s not perfect, he has issues he’s the reason that Miki’s life changed but I think he’s also good for her and willing to risk his life for hers.

I was really excited to have the chance to read Rush because I’ve heard so much about the series. The concept reminds me of Enders Game but I think it’s executed better in my opinion. I love the idea that they are time traveling outside their bodies to find an alien race that is bent on destroying the people of earth. I’m kind of a sucker for a good alien story and this one rates right up there with the Lux. I really enjoyed the characters I was able to connect with them captivated by their stories as they intertwined. Rush is a captivating story that draws the reader in right from the start loaded with action, suspense, aliens, romance and a kick ass heroine to save the day. My only complaint is that it’s a cliffhanger so I need to read the next one to see how it will play out. Rush is a must for fans of YA Sci Fi and aliens. I really enjoyed the story it was hard to put down. I loved it.
