Ohnuma places these stories into a discrete subgenre of South Asian Buddhist literature and approaches them like case studies, analyzing their plots, characterizations, and rhetoric. She then relates the theme of the Buddha's bodily self-sacrifice to major conceptual discourses in the history of Buddhism and South Asian religions, such as the categories of the gift, the body (both ordinary and extraordinary), kingship, sacrifice, ritual offering, and death.

Head, Eyes, Flesh, and Blood reveals a very sophisticated and influential perception of the body in South Asian Buddhist literature and highlights the way in which these stories have provided an important cultural resource for Buddhists. Combined with her rich and careful translations of classic texts, Ohnuma introduces a whole new understanding of a vital concept in Buddhists studies.

Almost everything you need to master FileMaker – if you already know the basics

Except for one version I skipped, I’ve owned every edition of FileMaker Pro 13: The Missing Manual.

This book and online FileMaker resources, some of which are identified in Appendix A, and patience are all you need to become a master of FileMaker Pro.

However, be aware that this book is not intended for total beginners. The authors explain “[t]his book is written for advanced-beginner or intermediate computer users”. Being more precise, anything beyond the absolute basics of FileMaker, which can be mastered, quickly, involves study and trial and error learning.

Once you’ve learned the basics, then this book will help you learn almost every aspect of FileMaker Pro 13.

If you’ve taken the time to learn the basics, this well-written manual will guide you through getting the most from FileMaker Pro. I consider it an indispensable reference.

I really get a lot of use out of Susan and Stuart's Missing Manual books. As a 15+ year developer, I use this book as a reference all the time. I love the "Tips" throughout the book and it's very well written. In fact, I bring this book with me when at client sites as my #1 reference. And I tell clients if they are going to get just 1 Filemaker book to use THIS is the book I recommend. Kudos.

GREAT stuff

The Missing Manual people did it again. I stumbled around Filemaker for a few days before I got serious and took my question and problems to the book. The answers are all there. Throughly detailed with all sorts of useful tips and short cuts.

I have several of these books for Apple OS and now Filemaker.

What's not to love ! NOT your average cookbook. MUST HAVE! ❤️

I don't know how anyone could give this book less than 5 stars. I would give it a million stars if I could. I have been following Lindsay'a blog for a couple years now. So far, all the recipes I made from her blog have been awesome. Her ice box cakes are off the chain. Sooooo easy and no bake. The pictures in this book are simply georgeous. I personally like cookbooks with lots of pictures so I know what the final product looks like. There is a picture with every single recipe in her book. I'm not a beginner baker. In fact, I have been baking for 40 years. This is a cookbook for all levels of bakers. Her recipes are on point. We all like to tweak recipes to make it fit our taste. With Lindsay's, I never have to. It's ALWAYS on point. Well done, Lindsay ! You have done an awesome job. Can't wait to make some of these sweet treats ! ❤️

Cakes so beautiful, you'll want to eat the book!

I have had the good fortune to work with Lindsay and to be a "taste tester" of many different cakes. (A tough job, but someone has to do it!) They are ALL gorgeous and delicious. And the pictures of the cakes in this book will make you ponder whether you can eat the book! :) Lindsay sweats all the details in taste and presentation, so you don't have to. A perfect gift for the baker in your life!

Make something deliciously beautiful!

We just used Lindsay's recipes to bake two birthday cakes, and they were fantastic! The recipes were easy to understand, and her explanations for how to decorate were so clear and helpful. I had never made a cheesecake before, but it turned out deliciously, thanks to her helpful tips.

The other thing I love about this cookbook is the gorgeous photos. They are inspiring to view.

For those with kids, this cookbook is a surprising hit, too. My crew loves looking through it, and the 10 y.o. is the one who did the decorating, following Lindsay's great instructions.

We can't wait to make more items from the book and her blog.

Straightforward but shallow

Dr. Crow's book provides a broad look at many topics related to power systems numerical analysis. However, there are many blatant errors in this edition, and a questionable amount of assumptions are made about the background of the reader. The sections on sparse matrices, iterative solution, and power flow are sufficient, but the material on transient stability analysis is lacking. I would consider this book to be a good overview in this area and a quick start guide for a power engineer who is handed a computation task, but if you do not already have a sufficient grasp of power systems, you will need to follow references and delve into background for real understanding of what the methods are doing.

The item as such is good but I had to suffer from lots of hassles during this purchase. I could receive the book almost after a month that I have placed an order. I think this was because of the seller of the item. I hope this kind of thing never happens again.

Glide if you dare

This book answers the question, "What does it mean to move through a maze of language?" -- specifically, a visual language called Glide. (Like Tolkien, Slattery has invented language and story together.) Glide is "polymorphic, dynamic, inexorably ambiguous, proteanly metaphoric, illogically positive, and profligately generative of...questions." As a science fiction fan I admire the way Slattery tells this tale from its characters' (seemingly) alien viewpoints, and in their own words; it takes longer, but provides a stunning experience for readers willing to skim the glossary and then immerse themselves. _Maze Game_'s "idea-intensiveness" (and civilization-wide scope) also reminded me of Asimov's _Foundation Trilogy_, except that since Slattery stays with the same characters throughout, I grew to care about them more than I did Asimov's. And fans of fantasy will also recognize a story in which things are going from bad to worse: what can be done? and who will have the courage to do it? Finally, this book is about oracles; it is itself oracular; it refers readers to an online version of the language and oracle they can try themselves. As the Glides say, "A book cannot read itself, much less interpret its own story." This book needs you to read it, and interpret, if you dare! This book will blow your mind

I've struggled for a while, wanting to review this book and trying to see where to begin. That is how astonishing Diana Slattery's vision of this place is, a place where something like AIDS has been cured through the creation of something more horrible, the "disease" of immortality, spread through blood products and bodily fluids. For me, that is the "what if" that makes this novel/interactive experience so tantilizing. It makes me imagine imortality as something where you best be careful or you might "catch" it.
And this curse of immortality creates the phenomena of the Death Dancers and the Maze Game. (allegory coming, duck! Do you think Earth could be an afternoon soap opera for a race of gods or little gray aliens?)
You need to read this book for the hilarious surprise of figuring out who 'Oh-T'bee is. Folks from New York will love the ironic twist.
Oracles and AI, but this is not cyberpunk in the strict sense of the genre. The Maze Game pushes past that and imagines a cosmology, like Ursula LeGuin in the Hain series, a cosmology spun out by a concept. This ties in to some of Diana Slattery's other work looking at alphabets and the cultures that come out of them, considering a culture based on uncertainty and doubt, interpretation, layers of meaning. We learn to think about lilies and this thing called "Glide Mind."
It's like haiku crossed with I Ching crossed with Tarot, and delivered through an omnipresent artificial intelligence agent in glyphs. Diana invented a language of glyphs just so she could craft poems in it and imagine a culture that lives inside those poems.
And as a student of the Tarot, I found my own layers in this book, layers relating indirectly to the 4 types of Death Dancers and the 4 suits in the Tarot, corresponding also to Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. These things become highly differentiated styles of the dance.
And those old, old Immortals, shades hiding their impossibly old eyes, they watch, enviously.

The Maze Game

Like the Maze around and through which the story of the Death Dancers revolves and evolves, there are many levels to this creation, and the reader can take the experience as far as he or she wants to go. It can be taken only as far as the first level of compelling science fiction, or it can be taken to the next level of transportation through an amazing exploration of language, creativity and consciousness. The reader can interact with and have a personal experience with the language of the Glides, or, if the reader isn't inclined to interrupt the flow of the story, a simple open mind will allow the novel to speak to the part of all of us that asks the continuing question: What is this experience of consciousness? And that is what has stayed with us most vividly since reading The Maze Game - that we are reminded of each time an event takes place that shakes up the global reality: Diana Reed Slattery has captured the feeling of a haunting possibility that has been posited in human consciousness throughout the ages: Is this reality we are all participating in some kind of game we are playing with ourselves to maintain an illusion?
